Well-honed written and verbal communication skills

  • Facilitated efforts to refine the strategic framework of the Imagine Canada-Nonprofit Knowledge Network (a collaborative network of local and regional knowledge mobilization hubs working together to share and develop knowledge about charitable and non-profit organizations) and assisted in producing an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant application to support the evolution of the Network’s activities.
  • Contribute regular online feature stories to CharityVillage.com (a resource website for Canadian nonprofits that receives over 20,000 hits per day).

    Extensive curriculum and training guide development (with focus on volunteer development)

  • Developed curriculum and support materials for a series of five International Year of Volunteers training guides on volunteer management “hot topics” for use by volunteer centres across Canada (Volunteer Canada):
  • Developed curriculum and support materials to explore the volunteer management implications of the 2000 National Survey of Giving, Volunteering and Participating and delivered train the trainer session to Volunteer Canada and United Way of Canada trainers.
  • Revamped curriculum for 2003 National Survey of Nonprofit and Voluntary Organizations that included: 1 hour PowerPoint presentation, speaking notes and tools to address the identified issues, trends, challenges and opportunities and encourage reflection about the implications.   • Facilitated the online volunteer management course offered by Capacity Builders at OCSA.

Customized, client-centred facilitation and train-the-trainer workshops

  • Delivered train the trainer session to Volunteer Canada and United Way of Canada trainers for curriculum based on 2000 National Survey of Giving, Volunteering and Participating.

Developer of web-based capacity building projects

  • Developed an online Capacity Building e-Toolkit related to the administration, management and strategic development of Volunteer Centres in Canada. (Volunteer Canada)
  • Coordinated the development of a web-based library to share volunteer management tools and templates between community support agencies; the web-based library resource was so well-received and was expanded into a provincial resource. (Ontario Community Support Association)
  • Revised and expanded the volunteer management/program administration resource manual and made it electronically accessible. (Ontario Public Health Association)

Sensitive and competent agent of organizational change

  • Champion of a national working group with responsibility for planning and implementing the Volunteer Development key strategic initiative in order to improve and coordinate practices among Charters of varying size and capacity across Canada. (Junior Achievement of Canada)
  • Supported staff across Canada with varying degrees of capacity to implement a new Screening Protocol and worked collaboratively with national Screening Working Group to address capacity issues and create internal buy-in for systemic changes resulting from the new screening protocol.   • Supported 35 community support service agencies in Eastern Ontario to implement volunteer management best practices based on self-administered audits of volunteer management practices using virtual peer support working groups as a tool for implementing professional volunteer management practices.
